Spain take the lead against USA

Andy Roddick wasn't able to stop Spain's march to a 2-0 cushion over the Usa after the first day of their Davis Cup quarterfinal, taking a loss with a score of 7-6 (11), 7-5, 6-3 to David Ferrer soon after Feliciano Lopez got rid of Mardy Fish in five sets.

Ferrer came back from 4-2 down inside the opening set to win the deciding tiebreaker 11-9. He was in the hole 3-0 in the subsequent before making a comeback once again to take the set. Andy Roddick doubled-faulted the final tie, prompting a groan from the U . s . audience.

Performing as the Second seed for Spain, Lopez twice let Fish come back from match point during the final set prior to getting the win 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (7), 8-6 in the 1st match.

Spain is in search of their third Davis Cup championship inside four years, however is free of world No. 2 Rafael Nadal, who's missing the quarterfinal right after burning off in the Wimbledon final. Nadal given a hand to Spain in winning the Davis Cup in 04, 08 and 09.


Lopez offered warning that the Spanish don't go softly devoid of their major gun and silenced the raucous home audience early on by taking the initial set of the tough four-hour contest.

Lopez seemed to be on his heels however he fought out a tight final set. Lopez and Fish exchanged service breaks during the initial 2 games. Lopez broke Fish yet again in the closing game. They contributed 64 aces in the match.
