Up next was the second seed and another American Sam Querrey, one of the favourites for the event, and Sweeting scraped past with a 3 set win in which he had to come from a set down and survive a second set tie break in a match that ended up 3-6 7-6(5) 6-3. He came through another 3 set match and won from a set behind in the quarter finals against the Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili, which finished 3-6 6-3 6-1. Ivo Karlovic was waiting in the semi finals, but Sweeting managed to defeat the Croatian in 2 with the final score 7-6(3) 6-3. Nishikori had defeated Franco Skugor, Igor Andreev, top seed Mardy Fish and Urugyan Pablo Cuevas to reach the final. Nishikori was the favourite going into the final, however Sweeting played the big points well and managed to grab the victory which earned him his first ever ATP World Tour title.
Casablanca
Unseeded Spaniard Pablo Andujar was the eventual winner of the ATP event in Casablanca when he thrashed the Italian Potito Starace 6-1 6-2 in the final of the tournament. Andujar had a tricky opening match against Florent Serra of France, which ended up being settled by a deciding third set. The Spanish player proved the stronger of the two and won the set comfortably, giving him an eventual 6-1 3-6 6-2 victory. Next up for Andujar was another Frenchman, the wild card Jeremy Chardy who had defeated Bjorn Phau in the first round. Andujar took the match in straight sets, although the first was a tight one before he comfortably took the second in a 7-6(6) 6-1 victory. The quarter final against fellow Spaniard Pere Riba was altogether more simple for Andujar, with a double break in each set giving him a comfortable 6-2 6-2 triumph. Another Spaniard and the top seed for the event was his semi final opponent, and Albert Montanes kept the match close but eventually was defeated in straight sets as Andujar picked up a 6-4 6-4 win. Starace was his opponent in the final, having defeated Daniel Brands, Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo, Gilles Simon and Victor Hanescu in his previous matches. The two consecutive 3 set matches against Simon and Hanescu seemed to take its toll on the Italian though as he collapsed at the final stage and gave Andujar a comfortable win to claim the title.
