Andy Roddick wasn't able to stop Spain's march to a 2-0 cushion over the Usa after the first day of their Davis Cup quarterfinal, taking a loss with a score of 7-6 (11), 7-5, 6-3 to David Ferrer soon after Feliciano Lopez got rid of Mardy Fish in five sets.
Ferrer came back from 4-2 down inside the opening set to win the deciding tiebreaker 11-9. He was in the hole 3-0 in the subsequent before making a comeback once again to take the set. Andy Roddick doubled-faulted the final tie, prompting a groan from the U . s . audience.
Performing as the Second seed for Spain, Lopez twice let Fish come back from match point during the final set prior to getting the win 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (7), 8-6 in the 1st match.
Spain is in search of their third Davis Cup championship inside four years, however is free of world No. 2 Rafael Nadal, who's missing the quarterfinal right after burning off in the Wimbledon final. Nadal given a hand to Spain in winning the Davis Cup in 04, 08 and 09.
Lopez offered warning that the Spanish don't go softly devoid of their major gun and silenced the raucous home audience early on by taking the initial set of the tough four-hour contest.
Placed No. 31 in the world, Lopez strutted just like a matador, waving his finger at the balls that sailed out of the court and also shouting and pumping his fists immediately after winning shots. A little but noisy section of Spanish admirers cheered him on.
Fish ultimately rallied the audience and its songs of "U-S-A!" by ripping through the tiebreaker at the end of the penultimate set.
Lopez seemed to be on his heels however he fought out a tight final set. Lopez and Fish exchanged service breaks during the initial 2 games. Lopez broke Fish yet again in the closing game. They contributed 64 aces in the match.

Tennis Scores
Initially the method used to score a tennis match may seem a little confusing. The most important keywords to remember are the points, the games, the set and match. This is where the expression 'Game, Set and Match' is founded.
To win a game a player needs to win at least 4 points, and he has to be 2 points clear to get the game. Were he not to lose a point, the score would go 15-0, 30-0, 40-0 and them game.
The score of the person serving in the game is always the first score. So if the person serving won the initial point the score would then be 15-love.
If the person receiving the serve had won the first point the score would then be Love-15.
should the person serving take both the first points in a game he would have 30 making the score 30-love.
If the person not serving went on to win the following two points the score would be 30-30 or 30 all.
The following point is 40. In the scenario where both players won a total of three points each the score would then be 40-40, or as it is more commonly known, deuce. Should this situation arise either player should look to win two consecutive points in order to win the game. The initial point played after the score is level at 40-40 is commonly known as Advantage or can be shortened to Ad. It is known as Ad when the player serving has won the first point and Ad Out when the receiver has. If a player has the advantage and goes on to claim the following point then that player wins the game. Should the player with advantage lose that point then the scoreboard reverts to 40-40 and the scenario begins again. This can continue indefinitely until either one of the players wins two points in a row after deuce to claim the game.
The smallest number of games required in order to win a set is 6, and the player must be clear of his opponent by at least 2 games. So 6-1, 6-2, 6-3. 6-4 or 7-5 would be sufficient to win the opening set. Should this fail to occur and both players amass 6 games each a tiebreaker is played to decide the winner of the set.
A tiebreaker is a race to 7 points, and like a normal game the player has to be clear by at least two points. Typical scores would be 7-1, 7-2, 7-3, 7-4 and 7-5. The tiebreak can continue indefinitely if there is not a 2 point margin. For example You must win 8-6, 9-7, 10-8, 11-9 etc. to win the set.
Professional mens tennis matches are settled over 3 or 5 sets. In a 3 set match the first player to win 2 sets is the winner. In a 5 set match the first to win 3 sets wins the match.
